At the outset we had
about 12 sows which we kept in huts next to our house where we bred
and reared the pigs. I was eight years old when we began pig farming
and I have been working with them ever since, much to my friends'
amusement at school.
I have always believed
that it is a better way of life for them as I'd much rather see
them rolling around in the mud enjoying themselves than being locked
up in a shed, unable to roam freely.
Keeping our pigs in plenty
of chopped, fresh, clean straw, keeps them dry and provides material
for pigs to play, which leads to greater contentement and therefore
higher productivity and tastier meat.
Our efforts were awarded by winning one of the most prestigious awards in the industry - 2010 Pig Producer of the year and in 2011 Deliciously Yorkshire Supreme Champion for our belly pork, described by Rosemary Shrager as "Some of the best pork I have ever tasted in my life. Anna has a rare talent. She is passionate about quality and this shows in her product".
But this intro is just
a start, I hope you like what you see and spend some time with us!
Enjoy!
